Postpartum bleeding, also known as lochia, is the discharge of blood, mucus, and uterine tissue following childbirth.
- Duration: It can last anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks, typically decreasing in volume over time.
- Phases:
- Lochia Rubra: Bright red discharge for the first 3-4 days.
- Lochia Serosa: Pink or brown discharge from about day 4 to 10.
- Lochia Alba: Yellowish-white discharge that can last up to 6 weeks.
